Alle organizzazioni delle donne e alle associazioni femministe
La guerra iniziata ancora una volta in Turchia nel luglio del 2015 ha causato morti, la distruzione delle città e lo sfollamento della popolazione civile. Le Associazioni per i diritti umani denunciano che durante il coprifuoco sono morti 320 civili, tra cui 75 bambini. Inoltre, Abdullah Öcalan, capo negoziatore del movimento curdo nei colloqui con lo Stato è stato posto in isolamento totale da aprile 2015. Da 17 mesi la Turchia sta impedendo ad Abdullah Öcalan di incontrare la sua famiglia, gli avvocati e i rappresentanti politici del movimento curdo in aperto contrasto con il diritto internazionale e i diritti umani.

L’informazione di un attacco a Imrali, dove Ocalan è imprigionato, nella notte del tentato colpo di stato del 15 luglio, ha provoca ulteriore preoccupazione e ansia. Questa situazione e il fallimento di tutti gli sforzi legali hanno spinto 50 rappresentanti (donne e uomini) del movimento kurdo, tra cui deputati, dirigenti comunali, associazioni culturali e organizzazioni di donne, ad iniziare uno sciopero della fame a tempo indeterminato.

Lo sciopero della fame proseguirà fino a quando non perverranno, dalla famiglia, dagli avvocati o da rappresentanti politici selezionati, informazioni affidabili sulla salute di Abdullah Ocalan,
Tra coloro che hanno iniziato il 5 settembre 2016 questo sciopero della fame ci sono le amiche del movimento delle donne curde, che sono anche membri dell’Assemblea per la libertà delle donne. Abbiamo lavorato per anni con loro nell’organizzazione delle lotte per la liberazione delle donne in Turchia.
Ci appelliamo a voi per informare l’opinione pubblica e perché i vostri governi chiedano alla Turchia il rispetto dei diritti umani, per porre fine all’isolamento assoluto e illegale imposto ad Abdullah Öcalan, e di fare un passo per far tacere le armi.

To women’s organizations and feminists…
The war that started once more in Turkey in July 2015 has caused more deaths, destruction of towns and displacement of population and continues to do so. Human Rights Association reports that during the curfews and blockades 320 civilians including 75 children have died. Furthermore, total isolation has been imposed on Abdullah Öcalan who was the chief negotiator for the Kurdish movement in the talks with the state since April 2015. Turkey has been preventing Abdullah Öcalan from seeing his family, lawyers and political representatives of the Kurdish movement for 17 months in contradiction to international law and treaties and human rights law it is party to.

Information that there has been an attack on Imralı Island where Öcalan is imprisoned on the night of the July 15th coup attempt causes further concern and anxiety. This situation and the failure of all legal efforts have led 50 (women and men) representatives of the Kurdish movement including deputies, municipal executives, cultural associations and women’s organizations to decide to go on an indefinite hunger strike until reliable information on Abdullah Öcalan’s health and security is received through visiting family, lawyers or selected political representatives. This hunger strike has started on 5 September 2016. Among the hunger strikers are our friends from Kurdish women’s movement who are also members of Women’s Freedom Assembly. We have been working with them in the organization of women’s liberation struggle in Turkey for years.

We call on you to inform the public about this struggle in your respective locations and make an effort to have your states to invite Turkey to respect human rights, to put an end to the unlawful absolute isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan and to take a step to silence the guns.
