Cara Meena, sei scomparsa 30 anni fa, uccisa da spietati fondamentalisti misogini che non volevano ostacoli sul loro cammino. Fondamentalisti capaci di commettere ogni crimine e che nessun potere costituito, in questi 30 anni, ha voluto fermare.

Tu rappresentavi un ostacolo alla barbarie di una guerra senza fine che in Afghanistan non ha risparmiato nessuno; la tua caparbia volontà di batterti per migliorare le vite di donne e bambini, per costruire una cultura di pace aprendo scuole, orfanotrofi, grantendo servizi sanitari di base, non era tollerabile. La tua denuncia contro il fondamentalismo e la misoginia doveva essere zittita

Hanno ucciso te, Meena, ma non la tua lotta, non la tua speranza in un mondo migliore.
RAWA, la straordinaria associazione che hai fondato e che noi donne del CISDA siamo orgogliose di sostenere dal 1999, ha raccolto il tuo testimone e lo ha tenuto stretto, seguendo instancabilmente la strada che tu avevi tracciato, nonostante gli enormi rischi e le difficoltà che le sue attiviste devono affrontare ogni giorno, da sempre.
Hai segnato la strada, Meena, e, ne siamo sicure, RAWA “mai tornerà indietro”.

Sei viva, Meena, in ogni donna che raggiunge il traguardo che si era prefissa, in ogni donna che si ribella alla violenza, in ogni bambino tolto dalla povertà.
E sei un esempio per tutte noi.

Sappiamo bene che il fondamentalismo in Afghanistan non è stato sconfitto, che le donne non sono state liberate, che quello della droga è diventato il traffico principale del paese, che il numero di tossicodipendenti è sempre più alto e che non è stato fatto nulla per mettere le basi di uno sviluppo economico che tolga dalla povertà e dalla fame la popolazione.
E soprattutto sappiamo che fino a quando l’Afghanistan sarà controllato da criminali di guerra come Rasool Sayyaf, Abdullah, Ismail Khan, Younis Qanooni, Mohaqiq, Khalili, Rashid Dostum, Atta Mohammed Noor o fino a che il governo afghano scenderà a patti con criminali come Hekmatyar, mandante del tuo assassinio, non sarà possibile avere pace e democrazia.
La lotta di RAWA e di tutti i democratici afghani per la democrazia è anche la nostra lotta, ogni vostra battaglia vinta è una battaglia vinta contro il fondamentalismo in tutto il mondo.
La vostra lotta, sorelle di RAWA, non è finita, ma noi saremo sempre al vostro fianco!

In memory of Meena, 30 years after her murder

Dear Meena, 30 years ago you died, killed by ruthless misogynist fundamentalists that didn’t want any obstacles on their path. Fundamentalists capable of committing any kind of crime and that no established power, in these 30 years, it’s been willing to stop.
You, Meena, represented an obstacle to the barbarism of a never ending war that in Afghanistan has spared no one; your stubborn struggle to improve the life of women and children, to really bring peace by opening schools, orphanages, ensuring basic health services was not tolerable. They wanted to silence your denunciation against fundamentalism and misogyny.
They killed you, Meena, but not your struggle, not your hope for a better world.
RAWA, the extraordinary organization that you established and that CISDA is proud to support since 1999, took over from you, tirelessly following the path that you’d traced, despite the enormous risks and difficulties that its activists face every day, since ever.
You have marked the way, Meena, and, we are sure, RAWA “will never go back.”
You’re alive, Meena, in every woman who reaches a goal that you set out, in every woman who rebels against violence, in every child taken away from poverty.
And you are an example to all of us.

We know that fundamentalism in Afghanistan has not been defeated, that women have not been liberated, that the drug has become the country’s main traffic, that the number of drug users is getting higher and that nothing it’s been done to put the foundations of an economic development which could take away the population from poverty and hunger.
And, above all, we know that as long as Afghanistan is controlled by war criminals like Rasool Sayyaf, Abdullah Abdullah, Ismail Khan, Younis Qanooni, Mohaqiq, Khalili, Rashid Dostum, Atta Mohammed Noor, or until the Afghan government will drop to pacts with criminals as Hekmatyar, the instigator of your murder, there won’t be any peace and democracy.
The struggle of RAWA and all Afghan democratic forces is also our struggle, every battle you’ll win would be a battle won against fundamentalism all over the world.

Your struggle, dearest RAWA sisters, it’s not over, but we will always be by your side!
